Welcome to ENG634 Topics in TESL (Computer Assisted Language Learning)

Welcome class! Before we begin, I guess I should share a little about my journey in the field of Computer Assisted Language Learning. I still remember vividly my first experience with the Internet. I was with a good friend of mine at the British Council Library in my home city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It must have been in the early 90s, and I had heard of the Internet but never used it. Lily sat me down at the computer at the library and showed me the Yahoo homepage, and how to use the search engine! Then came the undergrad years with DOS and the switching in and out of floppy drives! When I did my MA in TESL, I pursued a specialization in Computer Assisted Language Learning. That was my first experience of Macs and I know I wanted to hurl one out the window! It was a steep learning curve but I made it! After that, during my PhD, I pursued a Certificate in Multimedia Design and Development, and I have to say, I have not gotten bored yet with the field!

What's your story?
